Bachelor of Commerce [B.Com]

Nature :  undergraduate program

Term : three year

Eligibility :

candidates must have completed and passed class 12 or equivalent from a recognized board.

Admissions : Normally admissions are done on the basis of marks obtained in Std 12th (any stream)

But, B.Com Admissions for top B.Com Colleges in India like Shri Ram College of Commerce, Hindu College, Ramjas College, Loyola College etc, are done both on the basis of merit and through various entrance exams as well.

Some of the top entrance exams conducted for enrolling students in B.Com courses are IPU CET, CUET, NPAT, BHU UET etc.

Syllabus : general business principles, and at the same time, study core commerce subjects such as finance, economics, accounting, actuarial studies, business management, etc.

The B.Com course is available in 3 categories which are B.Com-General, B.Com Honours, and B.Com LLB

Generally candidates along with BCom,  prepare for professional courses such as CA, CS, CMA, ACCA, etc. or LLB etc.

If are pursuing chartered accountancy course, then you can complete your BCOM within 1 year with this course.

You have to give only one exam and all other subjects credit will be allotted since you are pursuing CA course.

Eligibility :

Candidates who fulfill the following conditions are eligible for admission to this programme:
i) 10+2 or its Equivalent

ii) Passed Common Proficiency Test/PE-I/Foundation from ICAI.

iii) Registration in Professional Competence Course/PE-II/lntermediate/IPCC/(Chartered Accountancy First Stage) of ICAI or already passed Professional Competence Course/PE-II/lntermediate.

Similarly, all those students who have passed Chartered Accountancy are also eligible for admission subject to successful completion of condition (i) and (ii) 

But, you will get final certificate only upon completion of your Articleship. There is no requirement to pass ca final exams for certificate only completion of Articleship required.

Bachelor of Commerce with Major in Accountancy and Finance is designed and developed in collaboration with The Board of Studies, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, exclusively for the Chartered Accountancy students. The main objective of this programme is to develop skills and competencies of the students in the field of Accountancy and finance. Students can simultaneously study this B.Com with Major in Accountancy and Finance programme with Chartered Accountancy First Stage offered By ICAI. 

BCom with Major in Corporate Affairs and Administration (BCom (CA&A))

If are pursuing company secretary course, then you can complete your BCOM within 1 year with this course.

You have to give only one exam and all other subjects credit will be allotted since you are pursuing CS course.

Eligibility:

Students who have passed Company Secretaryship Intermediate/Executive Programme shall also be eligible for admission. 

Bachelor of Commerce with Major in Corporate Affairs and Administration is designed and developed in collaboration with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, exclusively for the Company Secretaryship students. The main objective of this programme is to develop skills and competencies of the students in the field of Corporate Affairs and Administration. The students can simultaneously study B.Com with Major in Corporate Affairs and Administration with company secretaryship foundation programme offered by ICSI. 

BCom with Major in Financial and Cost Accounting (BCom(F&CA))

Eligibility:

ii) Registration in ICWAI Foundation Course

This Programme is designed and developed in collaboration with The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI), exclusively for the ICWAI students, who can simultaneously study this programme with ICWAI Foundation/Intermediate course offered by ICWAI.

Once a student passes ICWAI foundation/Intermediate courses, automatic credit transfer is given in this BCom with major in Financial and Cost Accounting programme. The main objective of this programme is to develop skills and competencies of the student in the field of Finance and Cost Accounting.

Bachelor of Commerce Honours [B.Com Hons ]

B.Com Honours is a type of B.Com Degree course with a subject as a major. Most students apply for majors in accountancy.

 

B.Com Honours is also a 3 year undergraduate Degree course in the field of commerce, covering subjects such as Accounting, Taxation, Economics, Financial Management, etc.

Most of the students prefer to pursue B.Com Honours program as it helps to prepare for certification exams such as Chartered Accountancy (CA) and other certifications side by side or afterwards. This course is for students who are looking forward to making a career in finance, accountancy and taxation

Should I choose B.Com or B.Com (honours) after the 12th? 

Ans: Both the courses are good, but it depends upon you whether you want to specialize in a particular domain and do B.Com Honours or you want to have an overview of all the subjects in the field of commerce and do plain B.Com. The industry demand for B.Com honours is comparatively higher than the general B.Com.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The MBA course is an academic programme oriented towards management and marketing. It includes subjects such as Organizational Behaviour, Marketing, Principles of Management, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, etc.

Nature : Post Graduation course

Eligibility : basic eligibility criteria for MBA (full-time) is graduation in any discipline or equivalent from a recognized university.

MBA Entrance Exams: CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT, NMAT, ATMA, IIFT, IBSAT, Etc.

  • National-Level Test conducted by an apex testing body or a top national B-school on behalf of the other participating colleges. Eg: CAT, MAT, CMAT or ATMA

  • State-Level Test conducted by a state level testing body or a top state B-school on behalf of the other participating colleges in that state. Eg: MAH-CET, OJEE, KMAT, TANCET or APICET

  • Institute-Level Test conducted for admission to its own MBA programme. In some cases, these scores can be accepted as a qualifying criteria by other B-schools as well. Eg:  XAT, NMAT, SNAP, IBSAT

  • Test conducted by a university for admission to MBA programmes being offered by colleges that are affiliated to it. Eg: KIITEE, LUMET, HPU MAT

MBA Specializations : Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Digital Marketing and Business Analytics

MBA is a popular course because students from any background - Science, Commerce and Humanities - can pursue it.

A regular MBA is a two-year course divided into four or six semesters. However, there are certain private institutes that offer one-year PGDM programmes as well.

One can pursue MBA in various modes, such as, Full-Time, Part-Time, Online and Distance-Education. Interested candidates can also find programmes customized based on their professional experience such as Executive MBA

Many management institutes offer or Post-Graduation Diploma in Management (PGDM), Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) or Post-Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management instead of an MBA degree. There is not much difference between the two, but for the recognition.

Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Statistics) 

A bachelor of statistics or B.Statistics is an undergraduate-level academic program. The program is designed for commerce scholars. It focuses on the collection, analysis, interpretation, organization, and presentation of categorical and numerical data.

Eligibility: required to complete 10+2 in maths or statistics with an aggregate of 50 per cent of marks or equivalent to it from a recognized board.

Some universities conduct entrance examinations to provide admissions. The students are required to apply for entrance examinations through the official website of institutions, colleges, and universities.

12th Commerce stream passed students are eligible to pursue this course. Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) is the Governing body responsible for actuarial education in India.

 

To pursue this course, one must first clear the entrance test held by the IAI. The entrance test is called the ACET. After clearing the entrance test, one will be considered eligible to pursue this course!

 

The course consists of four stages- Core Technical Stage, Core Application Stage, Specialist Technical Stage and Specialist Application stage. In total, to complete this course, one must go through 15 papers! Course is like CA course- there is no fixed duration! In how much time you complete the course depends on your aptitude and study schedule.

 

B.Sc. Actuarial Science programs last for a period of three years. Integrated M.Sc. program lasts for a period of five years. Students who have passed 12th class are eligible to pursue these programs.
